Women's Fellowship meets on the 2nd Saturday of the month, usually in the Upper Hall, for faith sharing, companionship, and prayer, and is for women of all ages. At our October program for Women's Fellowship, Ann Danuloff, volunteer coordinator of Catholic Charities, Migration, and Refugee Services, enlightened us on the plight of the 29.4 million refugees worldwide.
Even before entering a camp, which may lack basic necessities such as clean, running water, each person must register with the International Organization for Migration. These refugees typically spend 11 years living in the refugee camp. These men, women, and children undergo a tedious screening process that can take two to three years before they are relocated to a new country.
Last year, the Diocese of Cleveland helped resettle 425 refugees into the
Cleveland area with the goal of achieving self-sufficiency within six months. Ann shared
stories of triumphs and emphasized that we can be a bright spot in this international crisis.
Please consider volunteering your time and talents to welcome and assist these
families or even an individual. Simply mentoring a refugee by showing them how to use a
stove, becoming their friend, or driving them to appointments are only a few simple ways to
perform a temporal act of mercy.
